We had lived through the Covid pandemic where so many things had changed and we learned to adapt and step out of our comfort zone. The things that we adapted to were working from home, overseeing children’s schooling at home, learning to order food and groceries online, and being unable to travel interstate or internationally. We also relied on virtual communication with loved ones instead of seeing them face to face etc.
I noticed that during the pandemic, many families resorted to food delivery while the many new eateries and food catering businesses became very popular with young families, which I could definitely relate to.
If I had to work from home and supervise my children’s schooling, and to top if off face a very restrictive grocery shopping criteria, I would opt for food delivery hands down, even if it was for 3-5 days a week. Food delivery could be Uber eats from restaurants or privately catered delivered home cooked meals.
So now, we are back to ‘normal’… where children are back to school, parents are back at their offices, and we are able to travel internationally. Also all restaurants are open and grocery shopping is now back to normal at supermarkets.
What shopping habits that you picked up or developed during the pandemic shut-down are you still hanging on to?
Do you still “Uber Eat” or have food delivered to your home? What about grocery shopping? Do you still have them home delivered? Or are you back to visiting the shops?
For me personally, there is one thing that I still hang on to; it is the online grocery delivery service! I literally have hardly stepped into a grocery shop ever since the pandemic.
Do I miss the physical grocery shopping experiences? Yes and no.
Yes, I miss the interactions with the people at the shops, and the occasional catching up with friends. Also, I was able to pick and select the fresh produce and browse through the aisles of food and products. It is sometimes very refreshing to be able to see the seasonal produce, new products being introduced and cooking demonstrations.
As for the NO, I definitely do not miss having to carry and unpack the groceries after each shop, and the amount of time spent physically shopping. And if I happened to shop on the weekend, it could be very crowded at the shops and it could take much longer to finish the grocery purchase.
So, what is the normal for your grocery shopping right now for you? Visiting a physical shop or shopping with your fingers?
