With Christmas and the New Year having just passed… personally, I believe this is the best time of the year to take some time to just rest and recuperate from the busy-ness life from the past year.

It is the school holidays time; your children will be at home enjoying some downtime. It is a great time for everyone to just slow down, sleep in, rest, relax, and have time to get to know each other again.

Spending quality time together means a range of opportunities. It is not needing to have to be flying away for a long holiday. In fact, there are many things you can enjoy with your children from the comfort of your home, such as watching a movie together, reading in bed, playing board games together, or doing some spring cleaning together. It can even be gathering some unused items and donating them to organisations in need.

Another quality time activity is gardening together – is also a fun way to spend some time under the sun and maybe plant something together such as tomatoes, potatoes, peas etc. This is a fun way to connect and bond with your children, so it is a FUN way for your children to learn about nature as well.

Cooking together is another sure way to spend quality time with your children. Maybe introduce your childhood favourite dish and explain the background of that dish to your children. Share with them the stories behind the dish, about your relatives that they’ve never met, and the times that you most enjoyed that dish.

Alternatively, take advantage of the warmer weather and explore the local bush tracks, visit other suburbs, or visit local markets while sampling different cuisines along the way. Also instead of driving, how about exploring the different locations on foot or by public transport. Your children will be able to learn so much more about other cultures and cuisine as well as getting around on different public transport at the same time.

Take this time to rest, recharge, and reconnect. This is a wonderful time of the year to reconnect and get to know each other. Have FUN!
