It has been a while since my last post… I took some time off to tend to my family’s health issues (both locally and overseas) and my own minor surgery last year. We are gradually on the mend. Thus, I am now able to spend more time with my writing and sharing Nyonyalicious with the community again.
I am passionate about family connections through our daily meals that we serve on the table, more so during the festive season and the dishes that our grandparents and parents used to prepare during the festivities. Those dishes are all about our culture, our traditions, and most of all, our family.
As the festive season approaches, while preparing the house ready to greet our family and friends, as well as preparing sumptuous meals to serve at the table, take a moment to think about the dishes that you are preparing. What dishes are you preparing, who used to cook those dishes and with from who did you learn about that dish or dishes? What do those dishes mean to you?
The festive season is a great opportunity to revisit our roots, our traditions and our family members past and present. Take this opportunity to share your roots with your children. Talk about what you used to do during the festivities and what dishes were served during that time.
Festivity and annual celebrations are a time to bring friends and family together, to share, to connect and have fun together.
Wishing all of you a blessed festive season.
